Shawn Daley

Shawn Daley is our initiator, and one day catalyst, graduated summa cum laude from Le Centre Sevres in Paris in 2003 majoring in a philosopher: Emmanuel Levinas. The basic premise of Levinas is that he identifies the face-to-face encounter with another human – the Other – as the foundational experience of ethical responsibility. “Other” is our ethical and moral responsibility. This revolutionary philosophy pushed him out of the assuredness of ontology towards the infinite stare of “other”.

Inspired by the teachigs of Emmanuel Levinas.

We can exist in sameness or self absorption, but we can not live life like this. Life calls for growth, growth implies growing pains and change. In sameness and self absorption, we exist as “me”. The first food a child learns when they want something: “me, me, me”. It is only when the child, or grown person, experiences an encounter with “other” that they become an “I” for now they accept that they are in front of “you”. This is true in grammar and in life.

One of the characteristics of depression is withdrawal.

Withdrawal from society, withdrawal from family, withdrawal from responsibilities.

SADCAN exists as an antidote to withdrawal as the encounter with “other” is a call to a relationship of inter-subjectivity, of interdependence, of trust and empathy.

Our Promise & Our Dream

Our dream is to help people out of the quicksand with a holistic approach to life as they continue seeing their own therapist via video conferencing.

Our promise is to surround that pit of quicksand and to extend a rope, a branch, a board, a crane whatever it takes for you to grab hold and live. Our act of solidarity is to be with you on solid ground so that when you are ready, you can find solid ground too.
