Staff

  • Executive Director

Shawn Daley, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from Laval University and Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Centre Sèvres, Facultés Loyola Paris. He has served as a chaplain in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Shawn has also completed studies in Clinical Pastoral Education with the Cambridge Memorial Hospital and a course in psychology at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo. Upon his retirement, Shawn plans to continue his education in psychotherapy courses. Shawn’s vocation to help others was formed at an early age, joining the Trappist monastery, Our Lady of Calvary Abbey out of high school where he served as a monk for 16 years. Shawn’s ethical responsibility to the difference in others prompted him to shift his focus on serving through missionary work in Africa, Thailand, Australia, and since 2003 he has worked and or lived in the Dominican Republic. As part of this missionary service, he has planned, organized, and constructed a computer centre, a library, and a community centre. Since 2018 he has served at CFB Gagetown as a Padre (chaplain) but each year he brings a group of people to visit the Dominican Republic and explore difference. Since becoming a monk in 1988, Shawn has been refining his ability to listen. In fact, “listen” is the very first word in the Rule of Saint Benedict. His desire to listen coupled with his love for the Dominican Republic, comes together in his effort with SADCAN.
